1980 Brewers shut down deadball style..

1916 Phillies traveled to Milwaukee for a night game against the 1980 Brewers.  Bill Killefer slammed a home run at County Stadium where the Phillies beat the Brewers by the score of 5 to 1. Phillies started with a bang, jumping out to an early lead in the top of the first scoring 3 runs on 4 hits. Milt Stock led off and keyed the rally when he laced a base-knock. Dode Paskert stepped up next but he grounded into a double play. Bert Niehoff then lofted a solo-blast 'downtown'. Gavvy Cravath followed and he drew a walk. Philadelphia manager Pat Moran then called for a steal which was successful. Possum Whitted added to the outburst and slapped a base-hit. 1916 Phila continued their aggressive style with another stolen base. Fred Luderus then slapped a one-base hit. Luderus took second on the throw. That scoring would be all that was needed. The win was credited to Al Demaree (1-0) who went 8 innings allowing 1 run. Lary Sorensen (0-1) took the loss. He was touched for 10 hits and 3 walks in 6 innings. Brewers fall to 1-2 while Phils improve to 2-1.
