Pirates pull one out
At Wrigley Field, a match up of 1927 Pittsburgh Pirates vs 1935 Chicago Cubs. Pirates defeat the Cubs by a score of 7-3. Pittsburgh came through with the game-winning runs in the 9th inning when they scored 4 runs on 3 hits. The key offensive moment was provided by Paul Waner who silenced Wrigley Field as he lined a base-hit which was good for two runs. The game was dominated by the Pirates, until Chicago came to life in the 8th inning. Pirates killed any hope of a Cubs win in the 9th though. Johnny Miljus (1-0) went 1 and 1/3 innings allowing no runs for the win. Hugh Casey (0-1) took the loss in relief. He gave up 4 runs and 2 hits in 2/3 of an inning.
