O's win in extra innings...

In a night game, the 1974 Baltimore Orioles edged the 1927 New York Yankees in 12 innings at Memorial Stadium by the score of 4-3. Into extra innings, after an out was recorded, Don Baylor tripled. Brooks Robinson stepped up to the plate and he stroked a base hit back up the middle giving Baltimore the victory and a wild post-game celebration by the 11,716 hometown fans ensued. Yankees had 12 hits in the game while O's had 7, but Baltimore had the more timely hits. This is the first game that Boog Powell sat out in awhile. Babe Ruth at 2 doubles in the loss. The victory went to Don Hood (1-0) who went 1 inning, allowing no runs. George Pipgras (0-1) was charged with the loss in relief. The loss drops the 1927 Yankees from the top of the AL East standings.
