Comeback at Fenway

I love games like this. At Fenway, Ted Williams slammed a 2 run home run in the bottom of the 9th as the 1946 Boston Red Sox staged a dramatic comeback to win one over 1980 Milwaukee Brewers, 3-2. It looked like the Brewers were gonna win a pitcher's duel on errors but Boston had an answer for that. Two errors IN A ROW by Sox 3rd basemen Rip Russell allowed 2 runs to score for the Brewers. He was promptly replaced during the inning by Pinky Higgins. The Brewers looked like they were gonna pull off the win at Fenway. Until the bottom of the 9th. Down to their last out, Dom Dimaggio opened up the rally for the Red Sox as he drew a walk.  Bobby Doerr was next and he ripped a base-knock, and an error by Gorman Thomas brought home a run for Boston. Score then was 2-1 Brewers still..but Red Sox had life left. With a man on second, 2 out, Ted Williams then blasted a two-run home run.  Neither team was able to score until the 6th inning. Earl Johnson (1-0) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 2 innings. Jerry Augustine (0-1) took the loss in relief.  He was knocked around, surrendering 3 runs in 2 innings.

'Now that is what I call fun! I just love baseball, especially games like
this, of course,' Sox manager Joe Cronin offered.  'Everyone at the stadium had a great
time - did you see the fans go wild there at the end?!'
