54 Indians continue their dominance...
At Cleveland Stadium, the defending champs Indians shut out the 1935 Cubs 2-0. A 2nd inning homer by Vic Wertz was all the runs Bob Lemon needed to contain Chicago. Despite both teams getting a combined 22 hits, this was a pitcher's duel. Phil Cavarretta's 1st inning injury probably had some impact on the Cubs chances..but not much. The win was credited to Lemon (1-0) who went 8 and 1/3 innings allowing no runs. Lemon got relief help from Don Mossi who gained credit for his 1st save. Larry French(0-1) took the loss. He surrendered 2 runs and 10 hits in 8 innings. Coming off their World Series win in League 8, 1954 Indians continue winning in League 9 improving to 3-0.
