Red Sox crush in SF
The anticipated match up of Ted Williams vs Willie Mays was a disappointment. The 1946 Red Sox crushed the 1962 San Francisco Giants 9-1 under the lights at Candlestick Park. Juan Marichal (0-1) got hammered. He was touched for 3 homeruns in his 6 and 2/3 innings of work. Boston's Mickey Harris (1-0), with relief help from Earl Johnson, held 1962 S.F. to 1 run. Boston jumped on top to stay in the top of the 2nd inning scoring 2 runners on 1 hit. That early run support was enough for Harris and the Sox. Homers from Johnny Pesky, Dom Dimaggio and Hal Wagner carried the Red Sox. Felipe Alou 's homer was SF's lone run. Both teams are still contenders in League 9.
